I just had an extensive conversation with my sister about things that scare the ever loving shit out of me.
The conversation started b/c I had a really strange dream last night. The details of the dream aren’t important (read, I can’t remember) but I think it was caused by Dan pointing out a drug commercial where one of the side effects listed was “unusual dreams”.
My sister and I started talking about night terrors and sleep paralysis. Has anyone else experienced sleep paralysis? Oh my, it is the scariest thing in the world. I’m completely serious. You’re completely awake but you can’t move or speak. You feel a little like the Tin Man when he’s all rusty and barely squeaking out “Oil Can” to Dorothy and Scarecrow. And the thought of that makes you laugh…but you can’t and you start to freak out. Then you somehow force yourself to drift back off to sleep and you wake up normally.
This seriously happens to me. It hasn’t happened in a while, thank goodness. Just talking about this to my sister caused my heart to start beating and I became flushed. So we changed the subject to the many times I have been afraid of things I can’t see. Seriously, my worst fear is the unknown.
Which is why that scene in The Strangers where Liv Tyler is on the phone and one of the creepers is in the house but she doesn’t know it, is my own personal Hell.

I am guaranteed to have nightmares and sleep paralysis now.
